Training course on ground check mapping through GPS Survey and data analysis was organized in Bener Meriah
Three days training course on ground check mapping through GPS Survey and data analysis was organized by Karst Aceh at Bener Meriah. The 25 participants from government, private and related organizations including Pos Pemantau Gunung Api attended the course.
Basically, the course aimed to providing basic concepts of GPS data processing and extensive hands-on-experience of working on Ground Check Mapping Platform. A variety of data processing functions available in ground check mapping were covered, which include, but are not limited to data extraction, image enhancements, data merging and layout, classification, composition, geo-coding and vector data handling as well as GIS tools. The ground check Mapping Program utilizes participants to create generalized maps showing ground hazard availability, detailed ground risk and, ground potential vulnerability as mandated by BNPB how to develop and analysis risk map. Ground check mapping training maps are color coded for the objects of some area in Bener Meriah in volcano risk area. These maps show the types of facility that present in the risk area, and typical risk of hazard. Participants has produces Ground Check map, including a color coded map, evaluates the susceptibility for risk of the ground hazard within a volcano. Factors such as public facility, risk facility, vegetation, and others
The Global Positioning System (GPS) consists of a constellation of 24 satellites that orbit the earth twice a day (making one revolution approximately every 12 hours) at an altitude of approximately 12,000 miles. The Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have been a great benefit to all levels of government. These two technologies have and will continue to change the way governments manage disaster risk map. Licensed risk map commonly use GPS ground check mapping to performing boundary and topographic surveys. The goal of this training is to provide a means of quality control and accuracydocumentation of Geographic Information System (GIS) data sets created with Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. Participants also able to create generalized maps showing ground hazard availability, detailed ground risk and, ground potential vulnerability as mandated by BNPB how to develop and analysis risk map.
Place of ground check training divide in to three area, for the first day, participants that were separated in five groups applied GPS to collecting point data, they applied and managed how to collecting data point, line, and polygon, download and layout their data into QGIS application. In third day participants conducting ground check data with GPS and managed it into tabulation sheet. This tabulation were group of risk data that synchronized to BNPB-guideline (PERKA about risk map).
